The Latest GPS for Cars
In recent years gps for cars had really taken off. I think this is mainly due to it being absolutely logical for a computer to help you navigate to your destination. Therefore I have complied a selection of devices of gps for cars with a range of prices.
The Popular Option: Tom Tom ONE XL
Price: $350

Firstly, I need to mention the ‘big daddy’ of the gps for cars world: Tom Tom. Tom Tom has just released the Tom Tom ONE XL with its ‘extra wide screen’. In my opinion the Tom Tom gives clear directions via the voice instructions which can be either male or female. However with all GPS devices it might be necessary to update the maps, which can be done by linking the Tom Tom to your computer.
The device also features Bluetooth functionality which means it can use your mobiles data link to get the latest information on traffic jams and queues. The touch screen also allows for easy input of addresses, cities and so on.
The Test Winning Option: Mio DigiWalker P550Price: $300
The Mio Digiwalker is the most fully featured GPS solution here - it can do everything! One particular feature I liked was the fact you can specify whether to use the device in portrait or landscape. It runs on Windows Mobile 5, so you can still check your email via WIFI or browse the net. It comes with a car charger, car mount and a mains charger.
The Cheap Option: Medion GoPal 205
Price: $200

If your on a tught budget - Medion GoPal 550 is your choice! As you can see from the screenshot, the interface is very slick and polished. However, this cheaper device requires AA batteries, and so is wider in size to accomodate the batteries. A bonus is that speed camera locations are already pre-installed. There are some other limitations though - you can’t specify an alternate route if there is an accident for example. However, for the cheap price, the medion gopal is a good choice.
